Stanton Consulting were awarded the full design of all M&E services at the new Sentrum Data Centre in Rugby

Developed in line with criteria specified by the client, Hewlett Packard Business Continuity Recovery Services (HP BCRS), the 50,000 sq ft facility operates across two floors and provides 450 disaster recovery desks, 5,000 sq ft of data centre space, plant rooms, warehousing and offices as well as incorporating standard building facilities.

Sentrum V was secured by Sentrum following a detailed discussion with Hewlett Packard who had identified a requirement for a facility that would replace two legacy sites as well as enabling the company to increase its offering of business continuity services to existing and new customers. Rugby was selected because it is considered to be a developing hi-tech location and is also equi-distant to the two existing centres. The development of this facility is part of an ever-expanding global market requirement for HP which, to date, operates from 50 recovery centres across the world.

"We chose Sentrum because the company has a proven track record in the delivery of resilient, mission-critical environments, on budget and within short timeframes," said Nick Baldwin, Continuity Solutions at HP. "In addition Sentrum has also shown a commitment towards environmental issues and demonstrated a highly experienced and considered approach from the project design stage onwards, which we appreciated."

The ground floor of the site hosts all shared facilities whilst on the first floor HP's customers benefit from 450 disaster recovery desk positions, divided across several suites that have been designed to accommodate between 20 and 100 desks, so rooms can be allocated to separate customers if required. There will also be three substantial meeting rooms, additional break out areas, and a privately accessed server room ensuring maximum security.

The site was constructed through Sentrum's 'Fastrack Design and Build' process which allowed 12 weeks to construct and fit the disaster recovery centre. The data centre element was also constructed alongside the disaster recovery centre.
